In this part, I
try to discuss the basic elements of photography. The basic elements are
Subject, Lighting and Composition. While you can use your Mobile or
professional Camera if you understand those things the outcome of your result
will be a different level.
Subject
One of the most
important and basic elements of photography is the subject. When we take any picture
consciously or unconsciously we try to focus on something. There ‘is something in your subject that you capture
in your photograph.
As a result,
while selecting a subject for a shot, you must plan ahead. How the ideal photo
subject looks like.
Lighting
Light is the key element of photography. Photography is about capturing light. Depending on the lighting situation, the feel of your shot will be radically different: strong light, soothing light, warm light, chilly light, and everything in between. Each style delivers a distinct emotional message, impacting the overall tone of the final image.
You have different
sources of light like natural light and artificial light. But you should know how to control light. So you can control light by using Exposure Triangle which is ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed.
A good combination of ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed gives you batter
output.
ISO: ISO stands for the picture sensor's
sensitivity to light. when the ISO is increased the image sensor is more
sensitive to light.
Aperture: The aperture is the opening inside the
lens that governs how much light enters through the lens and reaches the
picture sensor. A higher aperture (relating to a lower f-number, such as f/1.4)
allows in more light than a lower aperture (higher f-number, such as f/16),
which allows in less light.
Shutter speed:
Shutter Speed refers to
how long the image sensor is captured to light in order to acquire a shot. When
compared a shutter speed of 1/250 seconds captures light for a shorter period
of time, a shutter speed of 1/30 seconds captures light for a longer period of
time.
Composition
The final and the most important element of every photography is Composition. Simply said, the composition is the arrangement of the subjects in your shot. It includes your camera position, the connections between photo elements, and the things you highlight, deemphasize, or altogether eliminate. Through the composition, you can communicate your story.
There are lots of things included in the composition. I try to provide a short touch of all things.
The Rule of Third: Rule of Third is easy to remember for everyone. you divide the image into thirds, both horizontally and vertically. The points of interest are the crossing points. If you love taking portraits, you'll want to place the eyes around one of the intersections, ideally the upper ones. If you enjoy taking landscape photographs, you'd partition sky/earth in thirds and position the focus of interest (think a sunset, in this case, the sun) at one of the thirds. Even on smartphones, you can use the grid when you take photos by your smartphone.
Balance: When taking a photograph, concentrate on where you set the subject that draws a lot of attention. The composition is considered to be balanced if the left and right portions of your shot have equal visual weight; otherwise, the image is unbalanced.
Breathing
Room: When you capture photos, each object should have its own breathing place,
or personal space, in the composition.
When
two subjects close up against each other or against the edge of your
photograph, the effect can be unsettling.
